Comedy Revolution -KZN South Coast Dates

( Margate & Toti)

Returning to Margate’s Cock & Tail after a sell-out show earlier in May, the comedians add another date to the South Coast calender at Amanzimtoti’s Lords & Ledgends.

Fresh off two national tours and a festival in July at the Catalina Theatre in Durban, the Comedy Revolution is South Africa’s longest geographical comedy tour. Promoting the KZN Leg of the ‘Revolution’ is award-winning stand-up and promoter -Glen Bo.

The line-up includes:
Host: Martin Evans (CT) Born in Slough in England, but raised in RSA, Martin is one of RSA’s hardest working comedians. Winner of numerous competitions in the UK and now based in Cape Town, he hosts the evening. Martin is the promoter for the Cape Leg of the ‘Comedy Revolution’.

Simmi Areff (KZN) a new face on the scene but making huge impressions on crowds, Simmi recently was a regular at the Catalina Festival for the Revolution. He’s an effervescent Muslim act with great charisma.

Mum-z (JHB) was born in Diepkloof, Soweto and raised in Sandton, JHB. He opened for the Comedy Revolution comedians in their JHB tour and was invited down to perform.

Glen Bo (KZN) Born in Mooinooi but cut his teeth in London and around the U.K circuit for 5 years.. Recently he performed at the Playhouse with John Vlismas and Marc Lottering and has been nominated for 3 comedy awards this year. He won ‘best solo promoter’ and achieved nominations for ‘best comedian in KZN’ and ‘ most innovative stand-up’ in the SA Comedy Industry Awards. Glen pulls no punches, does serious stand-up and lovers of intelligent quips and flights of surrealism are always in for a treat.

Dave Levinsohn (CT) Quick witted, versatile and famously funny David, 2004 winner of the Pro section in the Comedy All Stars Grand Slam performed at the Comedy Café in London in October of that year! David has appeared in the Smirnoff International Comedy Festival since 1997, and hosted the “Newcomers” slot at the Smirnoff Comedy Festival 1998. His television experience includes playing the man in the M-Web “Big Black Box” and other ads, a starring role in the travelogue “Going Nowhere Slowly” in 2003, and being the runner up to Alyn Adams (by a short hair!) on the comedy celebrity charity episode of The Weakest Link.

BEST IN STAND-UP COMEDY AT CATALINA THEATRE JULY 10-20th 2008.

Fresh off a successful and well received national tour, The Comedy Revolution Festival is booked for Durban in July.

Running from the 10th-20th July 2008 at the Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf the festival is a showcase of the best in cutting-edge local stand-up as well as 3 International comedians. Dates and news

The Comedy Revolution Tour, May/June 2008.

The Comedy Revolution Tour, billed as “Geographically Africa’s longest, most cutting edge stand-up tour”, runs from the 14th May through to the 7th June 2008. Featuring 3 international acts as well as 6 of SA’s finest comedians, the tour starts in the Cape, continuing along the coast up to KZN, proceeding thereafter to JHB and Pretoria then finishing in Cape Town. The aim is to develop and unite the comedy scene in South Africa by taking these shows to towns that many performers bypass and staging a stand-up show set at an international standard.

The promoters for the tour are Martin Evans (Cape Town) and Glen Bo (KZN), who are both international comedians based in South Africa. Their passion and determination to develop South African Comedy is the basis on which this tour has been driven. The tour prides itself on being the longest stand-up tour in South Africa, featuring award-winning and international acts who have come together to achieve the same goal.

The international acts featured in the show are Martin Davis from the UK (a stand-up veteran and legend abroad), Martin Evans ( a well traveled stand-up who was one of the only two SA stand-ups to ever work the U.K scene for more than 5 years. He is also the winner of numerous awards in the U.K) and Glen Bo (a recent nominee in the KZN Arts Awards in the “Best Comedian” and the other only SA Act to work and tour the UK scene for more than 5 years. He has performed for Royalty, dislocated shoulders on stage and endured quite allot of pain, but believes pure comedy is all about pain),

These three headliners are joined by the cream of the crop from around RSA, namely, Trevor Gumbe(JHB), Simmi Areff (KZN), Lil Paul (KZN) and Jan Badenhorst (KZN) and other guests along the way.

Welcome to the Revolution

The Comedy Revolution Tour May/June 2008 is one of RSA’s largest geographical comedy tours in recent years. We think back to when it has been done before, and nothing comes to mind, but to avoid arrogance we shall say it’s the longest in recent years.

Spanning from the Cape to KZN up to PMB then JHB, PTA and down to the Free State eventually ending up full circle in Cape Town, The Comedy Revolution is simply that. An undertaking by comedians and promoters Martin Evans and Glen Bo to unite the Cape scene to KZN and link up the rest of RSA.

The first tour features headliners, mc’s and international comedians, Martin Davis, Martin Evans and Glen Bo with 8 other cutting edge stand-up comedians from all around RSA. Venues, Dates and Times are to be updated on this site and Facebook.

See you at the koo.
